Sentinel Node Biopsy
A dye is injected into the breast tissue near the tumour. This dye travels to the Sentinel lymph node which is usually located close to the tumour.
Once located, a biopsy of the node is taken. Examination of the tissue determines whether the tumour has spread to the lymph node.
Lumpectomy
The tumour and some of the surrounding tissue is removed. Lymph node samples of the armpit are also taken for examination.
Mastectomy
All of the breast tissue is removed. Lymph nodes from the armpit are removed for examination.
